Sunday Morning Schedule at Calvary
This fall and early winter we're having a conversation at Calvary about our Sunday morning schedule, and whether the current schedule best serves our needs not only in the areas of worship, but also education, fellowship, etc. You can add your input to that discussion here.

I would love to see a basic bible study, or a beginner's bible study class, to talk about the who's, what's, and where's of the bible and how it all goes together and how to study it at home and make sense of it all.
I would like to see a time and a place where fellowship could be encouraged. The narthex and fellowship hall are spaces we have outgrown. It is possible we could hold a fellowship hour in the fellowship hall between services with a new chair configuration to inlcude tables or in a new space as of yet to be in existence! I believe fellowship is the key to having readily apparent hospitality at Calavary. By that I mean we already have great hospitality but it is hard to find in the sea of people occupying the narthex on any given Sunday. Moving up should also be considered in the future. Building a second level onto the church is the only place we have to go when it comes to finding lots of additional space to grow. Peace
I would love to see some sort of permanent name tags for members that are stored in the narthex on a board that we can grab and wear each Sunday ... I am terrible with remembering names, plus it would help me learn new names.
Has Calvary ever tried a Saturday late afternoon service (5:00ish) to draw the younger crowd back to the church? I know these have been popular with young people/families at other churches I have attended. Maybe instead of asking "how can we get more people into the church on Sunday?", we should ask "are there other prime times for young people/families other than Sunday mornings?". Personally as a parent of a very young child, I miss that atmosphere of a laid-back Saturday afternoon younger church crowd that was more tolerant of my child making sounds in church.
Regarding the adjustment of services to allow for "adult forum and Sunday School education" usually done between services. This type of schedule is offered at other ELCA churches in Grand Forks, those that really want that can get it there. We could offer adult sunday school (forums) at regular church times along with our current sunday school offerings. Those that want their children to attend church with them currently have the children go to Sunday School and Church (a two hour committment). Offering adult forums would give these parents something to do rather than attend two church services.
Now that you've got me going, let's talk about "Kids Time" during church. It is great in the summer when the children all attend with their parents. However, during the school year there is very little participation and I feel this part of the service could be eliminated during the school year leaving more time for the special music...

Having had my children grow up at Calvary, I want them to be married there as well. Offering a Saturday worship service would pretty much prevent that. I like evening weddings, not rush to get out of the church for worship afternoon weddings.
About having a social hour, isn't it the parking problem that has prevented it? As rude as it sounds, we need to clear cars out to make room for the next service.
One thing I would really like to see stay on the schedule is the special music time that the 9;45 sunday school kids get in the fellowship hall. IF you have never been there, you need to check it out. This is a great time for kids to really enjoy themselves in a praise and worship type of environment.
Name tags at church would be a stupid idea.
I believe the most joyful noise in that building on Sunday mornings are the children during Sunday school music time. There seems to be so much concern about fellowship (the Coffee House) that to eliminate music time for the kids is a sad thing. I think that it is important in the education and growth of our children in their faith and as members of “Calvary Youth” to have time for fellowship and music. I also think that interaction with the pastoral staff (more often than the once a year confirmation event) should be incorporated into Sunday mornings. With the previous time schedule pastors could have been visiting classrooms and participating in music.
That's a great article
